Barney Levitt got his B.A. in studio art from S.U.N.Y. at Oswego and studied under painter, Robert Sullins. He's always been drawn to detail and has been influenced by the paintings of the Dutch Masters, as well as many contemporary realist painters. Though he prefers not to label himself a Still Life painter, still lives figure predominately in his work. His paintings are often the result of combining disparate objects in unusual juxtapositions. He strives to create a sense of mystery or humor with an implicit smirk or wink at the viewer.
He was raised in Upstate New York and moved to Boston in 1981 becoming a member of the Copley Society of Art in 2004 and has since achieved his Copley Master status. He has shown his work nationally and internationally and has won numerous awards including Best of Show in the Copley Society of Art juried show, 'Pictures at an Exhibition'. Juried Exhibitions: 2023
