The complexities of working in oils infinitely challenge and delight Sue Gilkey. Her painting work is observational, expressive, and intuitive. It reflects her sense of the world around her and the world within.
Growing up in New Jersey, Gilkey studied with well-known artist Sally Millspaugh. She completed her BFA in Painting at UNH,Durham, NH, followed by post-graduate work at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Gilkey pursues a traditional approach to painting and is currently learning from and inspired by Dennis Sheehan. She admires the work of the 19th century French flower painter, Fantin-Latour, as well as the work of Sargeant, Emil Carlsen, and George Inness. Gilkey is a member of The Copley Society, Boston, MA. and The Salmagundi Club, NY, NY. Gilkey lives with her husband and two sons on the Charles River in Millis, MA. She teaches in her home studio as well as in workshops on Cape Cod and in Vermont. Awards and Honors
