Odin
Kaeselau Smith is a native Cape Cod artist who resides
in Harwich MA, with her large family. Odin’s paintings are
frequently inspired by the beautiful Cape Cod images that
have imprinted themselves on her senses since she was a very
small child. She enjoys portraying subjects in a manner that
fills them with light, energy and life. Her choice of subject
matter often shifts as she moves through life. As her view
of the world expands, she chooses subjects that reflect her
desire for peace, love for the beauty of nature, and even
her quirky sense of humor.
Odin comes from an artistically
talented family. She has a strong connection to her family’s
roots which stem from the heart of the Provincetown art colony,
in the days of Charles Hawthorne. The influence can be seen
in her work, including the subjects she chooses to paint,
the colors she most enjoys using and her painting style. She
is the granddaughter of the late Charles Anton Kaeselau,
a Provincetown artist, who holds an important place in the
Cape’s art history, and her paternal grandmother, Marguerite
Benjamin Kaeselau was also an accomplished artist, who worked
in book and advertisement illustration. Odin's grandparents
have always been an inspiration and influence in her life. Her
growing children also show artistic promise.
Odin Smith is a pastel, acrylic
and watercolor artist who believes that each painting or
illustration is a discovery and education in itself, and
is always open to new ideas. As an art instructor, she has
been able to experience an enjoyable way to share her artistic
exploration. She has won several awards, and has shown in
many juried exhibitions, including the PPSCC National Juried
Exhibition, the “Women Creating” show held at the Cahoon
Museum of American Art, the Leo Diehl Exhibition, and the
All Cape Cod Art Show to name a few. Mrs. Smith has mentored
in the Student-Mentor Program through the Cape Cod Museum
of Art, and has been hand selected by the CCMA to participate
in their prestigious annual auction for many years. She
is also a professional illustrator, with experience in magazine
and book cover illustration. Odin is a Past-President and
continued member of the Guild
of Harwich Artists, a member of the Creative Arts Center
in Chatham, MA, and an Artist Member of the Cape
Cod Art Association, in Barnstable, MA. She also supports
the next generation of artists as a member of the Friends
of the Arts, in Harwich MA, and has joined Harwich High
School as their “Artist in Residence.” |
